The Saturday Leisure Club is a youth group for young
people with “special needs”.
The group is staffed by volunteers who offer a range of activities
to those attending.
Due to staffing difficulties two small changes have been made to the
Saturday Leisure Group.
The session will in future run from 9.30 a.m. till 12.00 noon
(2nd Saturday in the month September to July)
and make use of all the facilities of the Centre.
We will no longer serve a lunch but this will free staffing to offer
a wider range of activities to the client group.
The sessional fee is £1.50 which includes a can of pop.
The philosophy is to offer choice to a group of young people who
often are in an environment
where their educational and social time can be very structured.
The Saturday Leisure Club allows them to decide which activities they
take part in.
At the first session in September the group were consulted with and
involved in deciding which future activities they would like to be
offered and the educational themes around which they will be based.
They have chosen sports , to include football, basketball and use
of both indoor & outdoor sports areas.
They wish to use the Disco Equipment with one member being very capable
with it. Some wish to do drawing whilst others want to use the PS2
& Wii.They intend to use the digital camera to keep a record of
these activities. Craft and cookery are also favourites.During the
better weather a small number wish to undertake some gardening duties.
They were recently supported in a bid via the local Community Learning
Partnership.
This was successful and has allowed for a great deal of new equipment
to be purchased on their behalf.
This is already having a positive impact upon the programme offered
at each session.
